[V8i] Fatal Error. Could not create a .ma file ... crash issue multiple times per day (Print Organizer Crash, View Attributes Crash)

MicroStation v8i (SELECT Series 2) - Version 08.11.07.443

Bentley GEOPAK V8i (SELECT Series 2)  07.11.07.619

Windows 7 Professional x86

Services Pack 1 

Intel Xeon CPU E5-1620 0 @ 3.60 GHz

32.0 GB RAM

Approximately, 4-5 times per day the program will crash producing the error message attached. The problem more consistently occurs when opening print organizer or view attributes. Other occasions occur, but during random use of application. Error message reads:

"Fatal Error. Could not create a .ma file for an AddIn: ustation.dll

System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path '_________'

at System.IO.IIError.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath)

at System.IO.File.InternalCopy(String sourceFileName, String destFileName, Bolean overwrite)

at Bentley.Internal.MicroStation.DotNetShim.AppManager.CreateMdlApplicationFile(String maNameToCreate, StringtaskIdP)

Multiple Annotation Scales

This seems difficult to find information on - is there a way to add multiple annotation scales to a design? AutoCAD has something similar where you can simply add numerous scales to the annotation list, for example.

I'm trying to show text at multiple scales across different drawings. 1:10, 1:20, 1:30, etc.

How to enable multiple Application Windows in MicroStation CONNECT Edition?

Background

Previous version of MicroStation allowed either a single application window or two windows. This release up to four application windows can be opened for multiple display monitors.

Steps to Accomplish

  1. While in MicroStation CONNECT Edition with an open design file click on the File menu at the top left corner.

  2. Here on the left hand side you will see a menu with a number of options, Select the Settings option from the menu.

  3. Under the User Settings area you will find the Preferences area.



  4. The Preferences dialog will open where you should go to the Operation option. Here you will find the section entitled "Open Multiple Application Windows". Once this has been selected the pulldown box to the right can be selected and between 2 - 4 application windows can be selected to open with your session of MicroStation. To disable this option just untick it.

How to open MicroStation Powerdraft entering into a new untitled dgn file

Background

MicroStation Powerdraft offers the possibility of starting creating a new untitled design file, without having to browse or manually create a new blank file.

Steps to Accomplish

 

  1. Open the "Workspace->Preferences->Operation" dialog

  2.  Tick the "Enter into Untitled Design" option

  3. Click "Ok" to return to the application

 

NOTE: When starting Powerdraft creating a new untitled drawing it is not possible to select User, Project or Interface and the last ones manually selected or the ones set by default will be used.

It is also worth noting that due to changes with the operation of the File Open or Work Session in MicroStation or PowerDraft CONNECT Edition that the option to "Enter into Untitled Design" is no longer available in the Workspace Preferences.

Basic question from a new user.  Can you open the program without opening a file, or does a file always need to be open?  In AutoCAD I can open the program and have it remain open without a file open.

Does Microstation have A tool that will label arc/curve data, yes or no

I have been looking for a tool that microstation has to label arc/curve data (length, radius, delta, tangent) but have yet to find anything. A lot of folks point to infosnap which is fine. My question is does MICROSTATION have a tool that will label arcs or curves, if so, what is it? I have create workarounds to get this information but it would be nice to have 1 tool that could do it in one process. I mean there is Label Line why can't there be "Label Acr/Curve" ?

How do I create custom GUI's for individual users that can migrate from PC to PC on a network?

I would like to find a way to allow individual users to migrate their custom GUI's from on PC to any other PC on my network.

Can anyone tell me how they are doing this? Is anyone doing this?

I do not want to impose a standardized GUI but rather allow the users to create their own and be able to sit at any PC after logging into Microstation have the interface look like the same one they set up on a different PC. Just have it follow them around to any PC on the network.

Bentley Connection Client

Whenever I start my computer, I see the Bentley Connection Client...

It always appears, whether or not I intend to use MicroStation CONNECT.

No one has yet explained what that dialog does.  When I sign-in, nothing happens.  If I don't sign-in, nothing happens.  When I dismiss the dialog it hovers around as a background Windows task, hogging 74MByte of memory.

It's an intrusive dialog with no apparent purpose.  It's annoying.  What would happen if I were to uninstall that Bentley client?

Why can't I open a DWG with V8i SS4?

I recently upgraded to SS4 and noticed that one of my referenced DGN files was not found, i.e. red.  I just tried to open the DWG with V8i SS4 and it gives an error message that it is not a recognized file format.  I did not have any issue opening this file with SS3.  Is it worth tracking down an answer, or should I just go back to using SS3?

Grid Bubble and Text Annotative

Trying to make both grid bubbles and grid text annotative so that they automatically scale to the drawing size. I've been successful in making the grid text annotative so that the text scales w/ the drawing, but the grid bubble (circle surrounding the text) does not scale. Is there a way to model both the grid bubble and text so that they scale w/ the drawing size? 

New to Microstation & appreciate any related tips.

Anyway easier way to create solid - irregular shape ?

I am creating a beam/slab with complex shape. I created 5 lines as show below in orange color edges. I then use loft surface. When I tried to use convert to smart solid it fails.

The only way I could make a solid is create a surface at the ends and  use stitch surface.I have to create the end faces by creating 3 triangles and stick the surfaces. It is very slow and time consuming. Is there a faster way and can someone tell me how to overcome this problem.

Probably the end face is not planar.

I am a beginner to microstation 3D and have a lot more to learn. Thanks for all the wounderful people in this forum.

I am also included the dgn file .

Where is the modeling workflow?

Solution

The Modeling workflow will only be available when you are in a 3D file. If you do not see it available, more then likely you are in a 2D file. If there is a command you need for that file, you can always use File|User|Settings|Tool Boxes and find the command or toolbox from there.
