Problem

The Open PDS Utility indicates that it has generated tags, but they are not displayed in the file.

Product: MicroStation V8 2004 Edition
Version: 08.05.02.35

Solution

The DGN and DRV files are not compatible with the Open PDS Utility. The Open PDS Utility was designed to work with DGN and DRV files generated from PDS. DGN and DRV files generated from PDMS are not compatible with the Open PDS Utility.

Problem

How to drop the association of tags to elements and re-associate them to other elements.

Product: MicroStation V8

Version: 08.00.00.00

Solution

Use the key-in CHANGE TAGS DROPASSOC to drop the association of a tag set to an element.

To re-associate tags to an element:

(1) Select the tags to re-associate to an element.
(2) Key-in: CHANGE TAGS REASSOC
(3) Select the element to which the tags are to be re-associated.

 Version(s):N\A
 Environment: N\A

Problem

Tag report coordinate values are not true, and they are negative.

Product: MicroStation J

Solution

The tag report utility does not output true coordinate values because it refers to the lower left corner of the range block of the graphic element (which is the value in the output). The values are also negative because the Global origin has a negative value.

Problem

Tags in a DWG file do not display when referenced in another file.

Product: MicroStation V8.1
Version: 08.01.02.15

Solution

In AutoCAD, attributes must be placed as a block in order to see their values in another file. In MicroStation, the file that contains non-associated tags (those supported in AutoCAD) must be placed as a shared cell in order to see or edit the values.

Problem

Tags in a V7 file are not displayed correctly in V8.

Product: MicroStation V8 2004 Edition
Version: 08.05.02.35

Solution

Tags are orphan tags in V7. When the file is opened in V8, the tag name is displayed instead of the tag value. In V7, select tag, enter the key-in CHANGE TAGS REASSOC, then select the element to be associated with the tag. The tag value now appears.

Problem

Tags to fit bracket or box

When placing tags, the different tags in a tag set may not place with the correct line spacing.

Product: MicroStation V8i

Solution

Active settings and adjust line spacing.

When placing tags, the active text settings are used. But as tags are
treated as individual texts, line spacing is ignored and the individual
tags are placed with a line spacing of 1.

After tags are placed, their text attributes and position can be edited like normal text.

Procedure to create a set of tags to fit a certain space, as in a bracket or box for example.

1. Create a tag set with the desired tags.
2. Set up the text attributes the way the tags should look like. To test, one could set the line spacing to 1. Set up other attributes level.
3. Attach the tags to the desired element and place them at the correct location.
4. Manipulate tags as necessary and adjust other properties.

Problem

Once a tag has been added to a tag set, how do you update an element associated to that tag set?

Once a tag is deleted (graphically in a file), how can it be added back into the file to be associated with the original element?

Version: 08.05.02.35

Solution

1. Find the element to which the tags are associated.
2. Attach the tag set to that element.
3. It recognizes that the tag set is already associated to the element and attaches the missing tag. Enter a data point to accept.

When the Same Tag Set Exists Multiple Times in a Cell

Problem

When the same Tag Set exists multiple times in a cell it is only possible to edit the last Tag defined.

Product: MicroStation V8 2004 Edition
Version: 08.05.02.27

Solution

There is an ID that connects a tag element to an entry in the tag set definition. So if there are 3 instances of the same Tag Set placed in a cell, they all have the same ID. When you tag the cell multiple times using the same tag set, all the tags float up to be associated to the cell header. Now you have 3 tags that refer to a single entry in the tag definition and MicroStation cannot tell them apart. So only the last tag placed can be modified.

Problem

Where are tag sets stored when they are created?

Product: MicroStation V8 2004 Edition
Version: 08.05.02.35

Solution

Tag sets are stored in the DGN file, unless you export them to a tag library. To export them to a tag library, go to the Element menu > Tags submenu > Define  to open the Tag Sets dialog box. In the dialog box go to File menu > Export Export submenu and choose Create Tag Library. This enables you to store them on the network. The tag sets then need to be imported into a DGN file in order to be used in that file.

Problem

Switching easily between element classes

How to switch easily from element class "Primary" to "Construction" and back, when drawing elements. He wants to do this by pressing a button or using a function key.

Product: MicroStation V8 2004 Edition
Version: 08.05.02.35
Area: area

Solution

This can be achieved using the MicroStation Calculator.
Use KeyIn "mdl load calculat;calculator tcb->props=0" for switching to Primary class.
Use KeyIn "mdl load calculat;calculator tcb->props=2" for switching to Construction class.
These commands are easily accessed, when assigning to a button or function key and will work also, when a command is active.

Problem

What is the calculated transparency of overlapping shapes?

Solution

Combined Transparency = 1-((1 - Opacity_of_A)*(1 - Opacity_of_B))

For Example:

  • There are two regions A and B
  • The opacity of region A is 10%
  • The opacity of region B is 30%
  • The calculated transparency is 1-((1-0.10)*(1-0.30))=0.37

Partial Data Fields

Hullo,

I have tried searching with google and havent had much luck.

Autocad has the ability similar to Excel to have a custom data field (eg. modifying a date data field from 05/28/1988 to 28/05/88 just by changing variables.

I would like to be able to have a data field that automatically uses the file name as the drawing number - but with out the guff at the end of the file name  (eg. 1900-SS-S-0001 Control Plan R01 becomes within the paper space drawing number field 1900-SS-S-0001 )

I would also like to add a Revision Field that looks at the end of the file name.

Any help even if it is - "It cant be done" is appreciated.

I am not the best user of the forums.

Thanks

John

CE - Print Styles

I would like to make a Enhancement Request for MicroStation Connect.

The enhancement would be to allow the user to apply a Display Style to the level directly instead of by Element. I never understood why Bentley chose to allow a Display Style on an Element and not allowing it on a level.

Also by doing so I think it will aid in the DWG support when using STB files, since you can apply a Plot Style to a level in AutoCAD.

Thanks,

Gerald Piotrowski

How to enable multiple Application Windows in MicroStation CONNECT Edition?

Background

Previous version of MicroStation allowed either a single application window or two windows. This release up to four application windows can be opened for multiple display monitors.

Steps to Accomplish

  1. While in MicroStation CONNECT Edition with an open design file click on the File menu at the top left corner.
  2. Here on the left hand side you will see a menu with a number of options, Select the Settings option from the menu.

  3. Under the User Settings area you will find the Preferences area.

  4. The Preferences dialog will open where you should go to the Operation option. Here you will find the section entitled "Open Multiple Application Windows". Once this has been selected the pulldown box to the right can be selected and between 2 - 4 application windows can be selected to open with your session of MicroStation. To disable this option just untick it.
