How to make elements on some levels unselectable?

This wiki will tell you how to make elements on some levels unselectable using Select By Attributes tool.

Background

When we set Level Lock On, only the elements on active level are unselectable. Then can we make elements on some specified levels unselectable? The answer is YES.

Steps to Accomplish

  1. Start MicroStation, open your design file;
  2. Open dialog Select By Attributes by selecting menu Edit > Select By Attributes;
  3. Select levels which you want select elements on them in Levels listbox of Select By Attributes dialog;
  4. Set Mode to Inclusive, Location, On;
  5. Press button Execute. If you want to close the Select By Attributes dialog, please note you should press OK button in subsequent Alert diaogbox in order to keep SELECTBY application continue to work.
  6. Select Element Selection tool or any other element manipulate or modify tools, move your cursor over the elements on your unidentified levels, you will see a Rejected symbol displayed.

If you want to back to normal status, you can set Mode to Inclusive, Location, Off in Select By Attributes dialog and then press Execute button.
