If NON-Selects users need to change their PC or reformat it, they need to make sure they perform the check-in of their License before activating MicroStation on the new PC or before reformatting their PC.

Background

The Activation Status of MicroStation can be checked within the License Management Tool (MicroStation menu “Utilities”> “License Management”) This window has two tabs, "Activation Status " and " License Checkout” .
The Activation Status tab will display the list of the installed products and their activation status. The state of the activation should appear as "Checked-Out , Expires ... " because the Activation process was completed  as NON- Select user. The date that appears in the table refers to the extraction (check-out) of the license and this has no connection or influence on the expiration date of the actual license itself. When the day of expiry date will arrive, the user will need to select their product within the lower table of the License Checkout tab and click on the " Check-in" button. Once performed the check-in, it is possible to check-out the license again by  completing the activation process as NON-Select ( in the License Management Tool , click on Tools, and Product Activation Wizard). [Note: If the activation process is not performed, the product will go in Demo mode.]
This process needs to be carried out every year and it is for free.

If there is the need to change the PC on which MicroStation has been activated or if it is needed to reformat the PC, the NON-Select users need to perform the Check-in of their License first on their old PC before activating it on the new one or before reformatting their PC. Please note that it is necessary to have Internet connection in order to be able to perform this process.

Steps to Accomplish

Check-in process before reformatting or activating license in a new PC

1. Launch the License Management Tool by right-clicking on the file "licensetool.exe" and choosing "Run as Administrator" The file "licensetool.exe" is located in the MicroStation Installation folder (usually in a path like the following: C:\Program Files\Bentley\[Software Name]\licensetool.exe)

2. Click on the License Checkout tab, select MicroStation from the lower table, and click on the button "CheckIn"

Once the Check-in has been done, it is possible to Activate as NON-Select the product in the new PC or after after reformatting the PC. After completing the Activation as NON-Select, the status of the Activation will result in status "Checked Out"
