Problem
Pattern in certain reference files would not display.
Product: MicroStation V8i

Solution
1. Go to the reference file dialog and select the reference
2. Go to the Settings pull down menu and select presentation
3. Turn on option for "Use View Flags"
4. Turn on patterns and/or fill for respected reference file
Another option is:
1. Go to reference file dialog
2. Attach same reference file a second time and see if the pattern
appears
3. Replace old reference attachment by detaching reference
4. Attach reference file again
