Problem
Solution
- Run the pda08110903en.exe
You may see the following
You can bypass this message and continue on with the installation but the program will not start. You will get this message when attempting to run MicroStation:
Before installing V8i products (even the pre requisite pack) there is a need to enable .NET 3.5 on Windows 8 (or higher machines). The reason is that Windows 7 and onward, .NET 3.5. SP1 is part of the operating system. From Windows 8 onwards, Microsoft has made it impossible to redistribute the installers of the .NET 3.5 and hence you see the message window above.
The Microsoft's .NET Framework 3.5 is required for installation. Since this version is generally not loaded in the Windows 10 environment you will need to do the following:
- Access the Control Panel by using a right-click on the start menu and select Control Panel
- Go to Programs and Features
- Select "Turn Windows features on or off"
- Select .NET Framework 3.5 (include .NET 2.0 and 3.0)
- Install this component
See the following video for an example of this operation:
(Please visit the site to view this video)
Once completed you will see the following screen:
- Proceed with installation of MicroStation
Installing this Windows component will allow the installation to proceed and also allow MicroStation to successfully run. This is an older component and generally is not required in the Windows 10 environment but is a requirement of MicroStation V8i Select Series.
Note: If you enable .NET Framework 3.5 before installing V8i products, the installer will not attempt the download or install 3.5 and this error message will never show up.
