How to create a Data Field in MicroStation v8.

Solution

To create a data field in MicroStation find out what character is set as the data field character.

To find out what this is go to:

Workspace > Preferences > Text.

The preference ED Character will be displayed, in the box it will display the character that is used to create a data field by default it is the underscore.

Now click on the place text tool and using the underscore place the number of underscores for the number of characters that are in the text being placed.

For example if placing the text "MicroStation" you will need to place Twelve underscores through the text editor and then place the underscores at the desired locationin the file.. Once the underscores are placed in the file to fill them in use the tool "Fill in Single Enter Data field" or "AutoFill in Enter Data Field".
