Problem Description
When clicking the middle mouse wheel to pan the view, crosshairs (tentative) appear and the pan command does not work.
Steps to Troubleshoot
- Check the Button Assignments
- Open any file and go to the menu Workspace > Button Assignments
- Click on the Remap Buttons option, the Button Assignments dialog opens
- Select the line XButton 1
- Hover the mouse over the area 'Button Definition Area' and press once on the middle mouse wheel
- Click OK to close Button Mappings dialog, and click OK again to close Button Assignments
- If that does not help, check the value assigned to XButton 1:
- Go to Workspace > Button Assignments once again
- Find XButton 1 in the list
- Check the Action against it? It should be: Pan drag
- Check to see if the command works on its own;
- Go to Utilities > Key-in
- Enter the following Key-in command: Pan drag
- Hit Enter and check in the view if the panning works
- Try changing to a different mouse and test.
Some wireless or old types of mouse may have compatibility issues. Try a standard USB mouse - Check the path value for the variable MS_BUTTONMENU
- This can be checked in Workspace > Configuration
- Under Category column select All (Alphabetical)
- Scroll the list to find the variable and its path will be in the Expansion box
- If this was a shared path, the file (typically called: default.btnmenu) could be changed
- Standard path is: C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\WorkSpace\Interfaces\Buttons\
