V8i SS4 dwg opens 2d only

I have an R2000 dwg with 3d geometry that open fine in SS3 and Connect edition but only opens as a 2d in SS4. By 2d I mean only X&Y show in accudraw and you can't rotate to a 3d view. Any ideas? Saving to dgn solves the problem.
